Former England captain Nasser Hussain drew attention to the lack of media coverage surrounding India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Speaking on the pre-series buildup, Hussain remarked on how discussions were dominated by batting superstars, leaving Bumrah surprisingly under-highlighted.
“All of the focus was on Virat Kohli, the absence of Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, and whether these great players would score runs,” said Hussain. He expressed surprise at the media’s tendency to overlook key bowlers like Bumrah in their narratives, adding, “They don’t really talk about Bumrah… Batters are highlighted so much more.”
Hussain’s comments reflect a broader trend in cricket coverage, which often prioritizes the performances of batters over the contributions of bowlers, despite the latter’s crucial role in shaping match outcomes.
